Relays

3 min read Last updated: October 10, 2026

A relay rebroadcasts another internet radio stream through your station. CloudRadio pulls the stream, re-encodes it into all your outputs (your Icecast bitrates and HLS) and sends it to your listeners, with AutoDJ taking over if the source drops.

Relays are available on CloudRadio One stations. Use one to carry a partner station's show, a network feed, or another station you run.

Add a relay

  1. Go to Relays in your station's sidebar, under Management.
  2. Click Add relay.
  3. Fill in the form:
    • Name: how the relay appears in your lists and schedule.
    • Stream URL: the address of the stream to rebroadcast, starting with http:// or https://.
    • Incoming metadata format: how the source labels its tracks. Choose Artist - Title, Title - Artist, or Single title (don't split).
  4. Click Test connection to check that CloudRadio can reach the stream.
  5. Click Save relay.

CloudRadio checks the stream again when you save. The relay appears in the list with its type, URL and status.

Supported streams

A relay accepts a continuous Icecast, SHOUTcast v1, SHOUTcast v2 or direct MP3/AAC stream. CloudRadio detects the type from the URL.

HLS streams (.m3u8 addresses) can't be relayed. Use the source station's Icecast, SHOUTcast or direct stream URL instead. Addresses on private or local networks are rejected too, because CloudRadio fetches the stream from its own servers.

Track info

Incoming metadata format only affects how CloudRadio records the artist and title in your history and statistics. Listeners always see the track text exactly as the source sends it. Most streams send Artist - Title.

Check a relay's status

The Status column shows the result of the last check: Online, Offline, Error, or Never checked, with the time of the check. Click the refresh icon next to the status to check again.

To change a relay, click its edit icon. To remove it, click the delete icon and confirm. You can't delete the relay that 24/7 Rebroadcast is using until you switch the default source back to AutoDJ or choose another relay. Deleting a relay also stops any schedule events that use it.

Schedule a relay

To air a relay at set times, create a Relay event on your Schedule and pick the relay. The event can be one-time or repeating, like any other event, and a relay event can also run as background programming.

If the relay's source is offline when you pick it, the event form warns you. When the event starts, the relay airs if the source is reachable; otherwise your AutoDJ plays.

Rebroadcast a relay 24/7

The 24/7 Rebroadcast card sets what plays when no scheduled event or live DJ is active.

  1. Under Default source, choose Rebroadcast a station 24/7.
  2. In Relay to rebroadcast, pick the relay.
  3. Click Save rebroadcast settings.

The relay then plays around the clock instead of AutoDJ rotation. If its source drops, AutoDJ takes over automatically until it recovers. To go back, choose AutoDJ rotation and save.

Where relays fit in the priority order

A live DJ always overrides a relay. A scheduled event, including a scheduled relay, comes before the 24/7 relay. The Input priority card on your dashboard shows Relay in that order and highlights it while it's on air. See Automation for the full order.

Who can manage relays

The station owner and station managers can add, edit and delete relays and set the 24/7 relay. Music controllers can't open the Relays page, but they can schedule an existing relay as an event. See Users and roles.
