Transitions

Transitions decide how one track hands over to the next on AutoDJ. You pick the station-wide style in Settings, and you can see and adjust each track's ending in the waveform editor.

Choose a transition style

Go to Settings in your station's sidebar, open the Playback tab, and find Transitions. There are two options:

  • Smart crossfade (marked Recommended): the analyzer finds where each track ends and how the next one should land, so the next track starts over the fading ending. Jingles and station IDs get their own rules.
  • No overlap: tracks play back to back with a short 0.5 s fade. Use it for talk, recitation and spoken word, where overlapping voices are hard to follow.

Playback settings are not saved automatically. After you change the option, a bar appears: click Apply & restart to save, or Discard to cancel. The runtime restarts and listeners are disconnected for about 10 seconds.

See where the next track starts

Open a track in your Media Library and go to the Waveform tab of Edit track. The red OUT handle is the track's Cue out: the point where the track stops playing. The green IN handle is the Cue in, where it starts.

The shaded band that ends at the cue out is labelled Next track starts. Its left edge is where the next track begins, so everything inside the band plays under the start of the next track. Its length is the track's fade out:

  • If you set a Fade out (seconds) value, the band uses it.
  • Otherwise, with Smart crossfade, it uses the ending the analyzer detected. An amber Mix point line marks where that detected fade begins, and the caption under the waveform says, for example, "Mix point detected at 3:41.250, so the next track starts 6 s before the cue out."
  • A track that ends cold gets a cut instead of a fade, and the caption reads "This track ends cold: the next one cuts in at the cue out."
  • On No overlap, the band is at most the 0.5 s fade, unless you set a fade out yourself.

Move the cue out

Drag the OUT handle, or type a time in the Cue out field (minutes, seconds and milliseconds, like 3:45.500). The field shows Manual once you change it and Auto-detected otherwise. The band moves with the cue out, so moving it earlier makes the next track start earlier too.

Click Reset to detected under a field to go back to the detected point. The Reset to detected button under the fields resets all cue points and fades at once.

Click Save in the footer to keep your changes.

Adjust the fade out

Enter a value in Fade out (seconds) to set your own fade for this track; the band grows or shrinks to match. Fades are capped at 15 seconds, and the editor warns you above 6 seconds, because long fades hollow out the mix between tracks. Leave the field empty to follow the station setting: its hint reads "Smart crossfade: fades over the detected ending." or "No overlap: a short 0.5 s fade at the cue out." To clear your value, click Use smart crossfade or Use no overlap.

Use Play fade out to hear the ending before you save.
